How Far Do People Trust AI?
In this quantitative research, we aimed to get an overview of the usage of AI-driven tools and to see how much people trust AI and AI tools.

Abstract

To get a better understanding of people's attitudes and trust toward the concept of AI and AI tools, we ran a survey in Europe. We were especially interested in how much people trust the concept of AI and AI tools, what factors can affect trust, what AI tools people have tried, and what concerns they have.

Our results showed that people in general trust AI, but, gender, industry, and location can affect the level of it. We could also see that people still have concerns related to AI tools, especially towards the output they get. Moreover, the most used tool is ChatGPT, and why? Because people enjoy using it. AI tools and trust

People generally trust AI tools, but they have some concerns about certain aspects of them. By empowering users with deeper insights into the nuances and limitations of AI tools, we have the potential to foster even greater trust and confidence in their usage.

In general, more than half of the people trust the AI tools they have tried.

Stacked bar chart displaying the level of trust in AI tools in general. Participants responded to the question on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is Not at all and 5 is Completely. Proportion of answers can be seen on the x axis.

Humanity

The majority of participants thought that AI tools have limits on human social skills, understanding context, or thinking creatively.

Stacked bar charts showing the proportion of the given answers for 3 different statements related to humanity. People responded on how much they agree with these statements on a scale from 1 to 5. Proportion of answers can be seen on the x axis.

Transparency

When it comes to the transparency of AI tools, people would be open to learning about how these tools work exactly.

Stacked bar charts illustrate the proportion of answers for 4 different statements about transparency. People responded on how much they agree with the statements on a scale from 1 to 5. Proportion of the given answers can be seen on the x axis.

Capability

People believe AI tools can help them work faster, which is in line with previous findings on the fact that people use these tools to save time.

However, their views on how much AI tools know, or being biased are inconclusive, the majority of people still think they need to edit the output they get.

Stacked bar charts demonstrate the proportion of answers for 4 different statements related to capability. People responded on how much they agree with these statements on a scale from 1 to 5. Proportion of answers can be seen on the x axis.

Reliability

Related to the reliability of AI tools, we can see that more than half of our participants fact-check the output they got from the tools, however, only one third of them would check it for plagiarism.

Moreover, still almost half of them think that reading articles and searching on Google would give better results than using an AI tool.
